Zwingenberg is the oldest town alongside the hessische Bergstraße - Hessian Bergstrasse (town rights since 1274) and is located on the western edge of the Odenwald in the middle of the economic regions Rhine-Main in the North and Rhine-Neckar in the South. Zwingenberg counts 7,000 inhabitants and is one of the Bergstrasse District's smallest towns.

The town lies at the foot of the Melibokus Mountain, which is 517 metres high. It has a very well preserved historical town centre, which is connected to modern streets and great hiking trails.
